AUBURN, AL - It's a Halloween costume you'll probably only wear once. So, instead of
buying that 70's look this year many people are opting to not buy it but
rent it. One local shop owner said it's a money saving option.
"Some people can spend $100 more easily at Halloween and most of our costumes and most of our costumes are $20 and under to rent," Ben Nichols, Co-Owner of Sydney's Consignment Boutique, said.
From Clifford the big red dog to a frog costume they're all rental. According to Google the most popular costumes this year include V.M.A. Miley Cyrus, Batman, and Great Gatsby dresses. Sydney's Consignment Boutique is seeing similar trends.
"A lot of times what's popular in movies will kind of influence what's popular costume wise," Nichols said.
Nick is going to be Clark Kent for Halloween.
"The Clark Kent look would be, put some pomade in your hair. Slick it back
really nice. And, nice khakis and button up, and just rip it open with
the tie flying backwards," Nick Price, shopper, said.
"For Clark Kent we've got an actual costume that's you know, Superman coming out of the Clark Kent costume. And, so, it's something that's ready made for that," Nichols said.
Many people create their own Halloween costumes. Nichols said customers often come in the store to rent out mixed and matched items.
"We help people kind of piece together costumes where they have something in mind for, but our inventory of vintage clothing allows us to kind of help us find things and make a costume that will work for them," Nichols said.
Halloween is the busiest time of the year for the boutique as many look to boogie down in rental costume this Halloween.
