LEE COUNTY, AL - It's a mobile app that's keeping citizens of lee county in the know.

"I think it's pretty informative.  It's another good way to catch the bad guys," Lee County Resident, Kashif Hayes, said.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has taken to your smartphone.  Recently, the released the Lee County Sheriff's Office Alabama app.

"This was an effort that we wanted to conduct to get as much information to the public in as many ways as we can and to allow them to learn more about what we're doing," Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said.

On this app you can access need to know information to keep you safe, like road closures.  And, it  even sends you push  notifications so you can keep up to date as to what's going on in Lee County.

"It has information from everything from road conditions to searching for sex offenders to current events, news, most wanted," Sheriff Jones said.

You can even text a tip on this app. And, that Sheriff Jones said is something that benefits not just all citizens, but providing that information also benefits law enforcement.

"We don't try to trace information or anything like that.  We're just looking for the information through a tip, and that might be the little piece of information that we need to identify people involved in criminal activity and bring them to justice," Sheriff Jones said.

Sheriff Jones said the app is updated daily.  So, users can know what's going on everyday.

The app is free for downloading at the Apple Apps Store and the Android Marketplace.
