At Glenwood, the letter "G" stands for several things.

Glenwood. Gators. But it also stands for this year's motto for the football team.

"Good to Great," said Glenwood Junior Jackson Oates. "It's in our weight room. 'G to G,' Good to great."

Last season Glenwood was good, but not great, compared to the past successes of the Gators. They went 7-4, with a first-round exit in the AISA Playoffs.

"We did good last year, but we want to do better," said Glenwood Senior Isaiah Bettis. "We want to win a state championship this year."

"It's where we're trying to get," said Glenwood Head Football Coach Tripp Henderson. "It's where everybody is trying to get."

But "Good to Great" won't be easy. Glenwood faces a complete rebuild, replacing last year's starting Quarterback, Runningback, and Head Coach.

"We're very inexperienced," said new coach Tripp Henderson.

"I think we have one offensive starter back from last year. So as they  play, I think they're going to become more experienced, and they're going to get better. I expect to see a much better team at the end of the year.

That means learning as they go, and building on what they do have.

"We're not as big, we're not as strong, we're a lot more athletic, we're quicker. We're fast," said Oates.

"We got a lot of speed," said Bettis. "We're probably a lot faster."

"I think you can expect from us to see a wide open offense, we're going to be an up tempo offense," said Coach Henderson. "A lot of motions, a lot of misdirection."

"I think if we just be more physical,"said Oates, "We can go from good to great."

Glenwood starts the season with Bessemer Academy at home on August 30th.
