Judge grants Tidwell extension for response to Whistle blower lawsuit

By Staff Reports (Columbus, GA) Judge Clay Land is granting one defendant in a federal  whistle blower lawsuit more time to respond to the stunning allegations.

The lawsuit  filed by Richard Barker, the top administrator of the John Amos Cancer Center names  six defendants and alleges the group knowingly over billed government insurers to the tune of millions of dollars. 

The lawsuit also alleges Columbus Regional Healthcare paid an inflated price for the Tidwell Cancer Center in exchange for patient referrals and Dr. Tidwell was added to the lawsuit. Tidwell is the only individual physician shown as a defendant.

Tidwell  petitioned the court for an extension after hiring a new legal defense team, which the Judge granted. Tidwell now has until August 19th to respond to the lawsuit. The other defendants..Columbus Regional Healthcare, the Medical Center,  the John Amos Cancer Center and Columbus Oncology have until the  end of the month to file a formal response.
