It took nearly two years, but Columbus Police believe they have the man responsible for the murder of Steve Toms.
In a press release, police announced the arrest of 29-year-old Michael Johnson of Columbus.
Johnson is the primary suspect for the shooting death of Toms who was a well known business owner and manager of the Gold and Silver Trading Company.
According to the charges, Johnson is a convicted felon charged with murder and armed robbery. Toms' longtime business partner, Bob Upchurch tells NBC 38 he was overwhelmed when contacted with news of a break in the case.
"I got a call from a detective that they were making a case against in the morning against a young man. It took my breath away. I just got limp. I never lost faith that the Columbus police department would find this person, these people. I never lost faith. I always knew it would happen sooner or later. It kind of caught me by surprise, but I hope we can go forward and come to a conclusion," Upchurch says.
Michael Johnson is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Recorder's Court Friday morning.
