Auburn relying heavily on Harrell for turnaround

Posted: Updated:

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn guard KT Harrell brings some competitive fire to a struggling program.

The former Virginia player was a spectator for one of the Tigers' worst seasons in school history because of NCAA transfer rules.

Now, coach Tony Barbee will rely on him to replace some of the scoring lost with the graduation of Frankie Sullivan and the defections of guards Jordan Price and Brian Greene Jr.

Harrell says "all the pressure goes away when you step on the floor."

Barbee calls Harrell "an ultimate competitor." Forward Allen Payne says teammates even have to pull Harrell away from the ping pong table in the locker room "because he'll break paddles and stuff like that."

Harrell averaged 8.0 points as a Cavaliers freshman but left in December 2011 as playing time dwindled.
