ATLANTA (AP) — Police say the man accused of shooting a 7-year-old boy while he was playing with friends outside in northwest Atlanta has turned himself in.
Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones says Elrico Smith surrendered to authorities Monday. Police say Smith was involved in a shootout with a man who was sitting inside of a car, and the child was wounded in the exchange of gunfire Sunday evening.
According to a police report, multiple witnesses told authorities Smith was selling guns just before the argument and shooting.
Police say the boy was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Information on the other suspect who fired at Smith was not immediately available. It's unclear if Smith has a lawyer.
