PENTON, AL - It happened at a house down what seems like a desolate county road in Penton, AL. 28-year-old Kason King allegedly used a shot gun to kill 32-year-old Jarrod Smith.
But, now, new charges against King suggests County Road 153 was anything but isolated early Sunday morning.
"He has been charged with kidnapping first degree and assault first degree, in addition to the murder charge," Major Mike Parrish of The Chambers County Sheriff's Office said.
Officials said there is a second victim in the case. A female and ex-girlfriend of King, who was present during, before, and after the murder. According to officials before the murder, King and Smith got into an altercation at a bar, fighting over King's ex. Following that, Smith left the bar with the ex-girlfriend. She was later injured by glass, while King took only one shot at smith's shoulder, killing him in the shower.
"We believe she was hit with the flying glass from the shower door," Major Parrish said.
Then, after the murder officials said King allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend to drive him to his vehicle, which was parked a mile from the home.
"she was threatened the entire time with her life then as soon as mister King stepped out of the car she took off and was able to escape," Major Parrish said.
Officials said King does have a history of drugs. However, they don't feel drugs were involved in this case. But, alcohol has not been ruled out, since all three were in a bar prior to the murder. Either way, officials said King's ex was lucky to escape, from what some say was an unusual incident down a peaceful County Road 153.
