TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Tuscaloosa police, working with U.S. marshals and city code officials, say they found nearly two dozen sex offenders to be violating conditions of their release.
Police said in a statement Tuesday that the citywide check of all sex offenders occurred late last month.
Authorities say 114 sex offenders were checked, and 22 people were found with violations.
Most of the 22 suspects have been arrested. Police said one of the offenders is in custody in another county and authorities have active warrants out for four suspects.
Most of the suspects found to be in violation have been charged with failure to register as a sex offender. One of the suspects arrested was not a sex offender, but has been charged with failing to register a juvenile as a sex offender.
