JESUP, Ga. (AP) — A 79-year-old man from southeast Georgia says he plans to buy a new lawnmower after winning a $100,000 prize playing a scratch-off lottery ticket.
Leland Smith of Jesup says he and his wife "almost had a fit" when he won the prize playing the Georgia Lottery's Monopoly Millionaire game. Smith says he only buys lottery tickets every now and then.
Smith, who bought the ticket at a Friendly Express store in Jesup, has a big family to help suggest ways to spend his winnings. He has four grown children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
For now, Smith says he wants to buy a new lawnmower and a car, plus use some of his winnings to pay off bills.
