RUSSELL COUNTY, AL - A bizarre new twist in the murder investigation of a 3rd Brigade soldier, SFC Donald Wilson.
The Russell County Sheriff's Office apprehended a third suspect for the shooting death of the decorated combat veteran Friday.
Michael Tucker was taken into custody as another accomplice to the murder and another love interest of Wilson's wife Gloria.
27-year-old Travis Leonard was also arrested for the murder and suspected of having a romantic relationship with the murder victim's wife.
Sheriff Heath Taylor says it was Tucker who lured Sergeant Wilson out of his home with a text message Sunday night and that's when he was ambushed and killed.
Taylor tells NBC 38 the wife was the mastermind of the murder plot, even posting the murder weapon on her Facebook page.
"That's what we think is the murder weapon...that's the weapon that we still do not have at this time. I'm hoping that the conversation with Mr. Tucker will potentially lead us to where that weapon is and of course there's always the possibility that its been thrown in a river or lake and or some other location that we'll have to do more searching for," Taylor says.
Sheriff Taylor believes the plan was set into motion after Sergeant Wilson told Gloria he wanted a divorce. He believes the murder was financially motivated because Wilson had a $450,000 insurance policy. Bond for all three suspects has been set at $500. The investigation is ongoing.
