Ala. mall requires adult supervision for teens

Posted: Updated:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A new policy at a mall in Montgomery will require adult supervision Friday and Saturday nights for children under the age of 17.

David Schloss, general manager of Eastdale Mall, tells the Montgomery Advertiser between 500 and 700 mostly unsupervised teens typically converge on the mall Friday and Saturday night and customers have said the amount of unsupervised children has made it harder to shop.

Schloss says the Parental Escort policy is aimed at making patrons feel safer and more comfortable.

Security is set to begin checking IDs at the door from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and unescorted teens will be asked to leave the property. The policy won't apply to teens who work at the mall — but proof of work status will be required.
