Opelika names new Police Chief

By Staff Reports (Opelika, AL)- The city of Opelika's search for a new Police Chief is now over.

Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller introduced former FBI agent John McEachern as the new leader of Opelika's police. McEachern retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the end of September, 2012 after 24 years of service.

But he also has a history in Opelika...before joining the FBI, he spent almost 14 years with the Opelika police department. Mayor Fuller says all of his experience was a deciding factor in choosing McEachern.

McEachern says he's excited about becoming the new Chief and says Opelika residents can expect quality law enforcement.

"I'm looking forward to working with these officers...these men and women of the Opelika police department.  I look forward to working with the close law enforcement agencies the other agencies here in the Lee County area" McEachern said.

We had a lot of great candidates...many great candidates.  it was  not an easy decision, but I think I made the right decision picking John.  and  think he'll do a great job," 

McEachern was chosen out of 52 other applicants.He is expected to be sworn in as the Opelika Police Chief April 15th
