(KMGH)- Prosecutors in Colorado announced Monday they will seek the death penalty against Aurora theater shooting suspect James Holmes.
Holmes' defense team recently filed documents saying Holmes would plead guilty if he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
Bryan Beard's good friend, Alex Sullivan, was one of Holmes' alleged victims.
Beard was asked about his reaction to the prosecutor's decision.
Reporter: "Bryan, this is a tough question but you know they have witnesses when there are executions, would you be willing to be a witness?"
"I already said give me a front row ticket, I want to be there for it."
"Why? He took my good friend from this earth. He took one of my first good friends when I moved to the city of Aurora. I mean, small town people act a little differently than city folk, we appreciate the smaller things and we appreciate the relationship we built throughout growing up. I don't know if city folk are different, I'm not trying to segregate anybody from anything, but we were just so much alike, he was my brother. I was in his wedding the year before. I was one of the groomsmen in the wedding the year before, it was two days before his first wedding anniversary, on his birthday, so, I mean, death is justified."
12 people were killed and 58 others injured when Holmes allegedly opened fire during a midnight showing in July of "The Dark Knight Rises."
The 25-year-old former University of Colorado graduate student is charged with 166 counts.
