By Cristina Mutchler (WAWS, WJXT)-Two arrests have been made in the case of a 13-month-old boy shot at point blank range in Brunswick, Georgia.
"I said I don't have any money and don't don't kill my baby."
Sherry West says she was walking through a quiet Brunswick, Georgia neighborhood Thursday morning when two boys approached her and demanded money.
She told police one boy shot her in the leg and shot her 13-month-old son Antonio in the head, killing him while he slept in his stroller.
"I took him out of the harness and tried to perform CPR. I saw his lungs inflating but he was not breathing."
Law enforcement arrested two teenage suspects.
A 14-year-old who isn't being named because of his age and 17-year-old Demarquis Elkins, who is considered an adult under Georgia law.
Police say today is bittersweet for the Brunswick community.
"Bitter because of the occurrences of yesterday and we all know what that is. But it's sweet to know that we have two arrests of the persons who committed this horrendous act."
Antonio's father visited the crime scene Friday, visibly emotional.
A makeshift memorial in his baby's memory has emerged on the sidewalk.
Back at home, Antonio's toys are still scattered around the living room.
"He was so special, had the bluest, bluest eyes."
The boy's unthinkable death leaves a family devastated, and a community on edge.
Police say they are still following leads and collecting evidence in hopes of finding more answers.
The two teens are being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Brunswick police say they still haven't found the weapon involved, which they believe to be a handgun.
