Smiths Station Senior Pitcher Marc Skinner has been on fire as of late.
On the mound, he punched 12 strikeouts against Auburn. At the plate, this year he's batting .380 with five doubles, three triples, and a home run.
But his most impressive stat is in the classroom.
Yogi Berra once famously said, "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical."
For Marc Skinner, focus has helped him to a 0.52 ERA and a 3.5 GPA.
"If you don't stay focused, you won't excel at anything you do," said Skinner. "If you're not focused when you take a test, you're not going to do good."
But he didn't get there without putting in the work.
"I think Marc takes pride in his school work. But he really takes pride in baseball," said Smiths Station Head Coach TC Britton, "He's a great competitor."
Skinner and Smiths Station are currently 20-4 and are Alabama's top-ranked team in 6A.
"I hope we can go undefeated in the area and hopefully make a run in the playoffs," said Skinner.
But even if Smiths Station doesn't win a state title, Skinner's future still looks bright.
Skinner is committed to play at Troy University next fall.
