By Staff Reports (Columbus, GA)- Ten years after the US led invasion in Iraq, Fort Benning soldiers who served during the initial invasion are coming together for the first time since their deployment to the war front in 2003.
Soldiers who served with the 1-30 Infantry Battalion, part of the 3HBCT led the charge across the border. James Potter was an Army specialist at the time.
Potter remembers the words of warning as he headed off into battle "they told us basically to expect a full on arsenal really, they told us to expect hell really, luckily we didn't get all that we were expecting and we did take over Saddam international airport which is now Baghdad international airport," Potter said.
Potter and his comrades are reuniting for a long weekend of activities at Uchee Creek. Members of the 1-30th call it the Battle Boar Invasion Reunion and they are expecting more than 100 Troops to show up for the festivities.
