COLUMBUS, GA -  Three star General LTG William B Caldwell III passes away.

Caldwell died Sunday in Columbus at the age of 87.

He served 32 years in the Army and retired as the fifth Commanding General at Fort Sam Houston. A combat veteran of wars in Korea and Vietnam, he was awarded the Silver Star on three separate occasions.

His son, LTG William Caldwell IV is also a three star General living in Columbus.

Funeral arrangements are still pending with Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road.
