
COLUMBUS, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
Columbus Police say they received a call around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning about a domestic dispute at a home on Oates Avenue.
Officials say on arrival, they confronted an armed subject identified as 44 year old Troy Kelley, who allegedly fired a weapon at the officers. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect once in the chest.
No officers or witnesses were injured, but the suspect was pronounced dead on scene.
At least one source tells WLTZ officers have been called to the home at 4716 Oates Avenue on "numerous" occasions. According to Troy Kelley's Facebook page, he was a 1987 graduate of Spencer High School and was currently employed by Columbus Water Works.
The GBI has been called in to conduct an investigation. The name of the Columbus Police officer involved has not been released.
