(CNN)-The Army Chief of Staff is voicing concerns about the possibility of forced federal spending cuts.
General Ray Odierno told a House committee hearing today that there could be deadly consequences for the troops.
"We will curtail training for 80 percent of our ground forces" Ordierno said.
"Sequestration will impact our ability to provide properly trained soldiers in Afghanistan in 2014. And it will have significant near and long term impacts on US Special Operations command and their ability to support special operations" Ordierno told the committee.
Eighty five billion dollars in federal cuts will go into effect Friday if lawmakers can't come to an agreement on a spending plan.
