COLUMBUS, GA - 19-year-old Shaquille Porter pleaded not guilty to murder, five counts of aggravated assault, and two weapons charges in Recorder's Court Monday morning.
He is charged in connection to the shooting at Majestic Sports Bar on New Year's Eve that injured five and killed Columbus State University student Charles Foster, Junior.
"He has made it very well known that he is pleading not guilty and that he didn't do this," Porter's Defense Attorney, Kyle Fischer, says.
Also facing the same charges is Dequandrea Truitt. Truitt was arrested shortly after the shooting after police say one of the victims identified him as the shooter.
Detectives testified Monday there were at least two different guns used in the shooting and that matching shell casings were found inside and outside the club.
The defense says even after the hearing, there are still a lot of unanswered questions and the priority moving forward will be to fill in those gaps.
"It's been 45 days of an investigation and it's a very vague set of facts, we really didn't get any specifics today," Fischer says.
Detectives didn't give specific details, but said more than one witness identified Porter as the shooter.
"She has some witnesses who have identified my client in a very dark club, could not really say what number of witnesses say him nor could she say who those witnesses were," Fischer says.
The defense says since Truitt is facing the same charges and witnesses also identified him, it is still unclear who pulled the trigger on Foster.
"Mr. Porter is in good spirits, he believes he will be exonerated, but it's always tough being in jail," Fischer says.
The judge said although he understood the defense's concern about the witnesses, the State does not have to produce witnesses and Porter was denied bond.
Porter is also facing an unrelated theft by receiving stolen property and his probation was revoked on two traffic charges.
His case is now bound over to Superior Court.
