AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Employees at a beef processing plant in Augusta were evacuated from the building and sent home after an ammonia leak.
The Augusta Chronicle reports FPL Food is being aired out following an ammonia leak from a refrigeration system Thursday morning.
Steve Hixon, director of marketing at FPL, told the newspaper some employees were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluations. The plant employs about 500 people and it was unclear how many employees were being evaluated. No injuries were reported.
Kevin Chambers, spokesman for Georgia's Environmental Protection Division, says the leak has been contained and stopped.
