
COLUMBUS, GA - New details have emerged in the murder-suicide reported in South Columbus Tuesday evening.
Officials say a 38-year-old Army Captain identified as Gonzalo Garcia shot his fiancee, 27-year-old Victoria Jacquez to death before turning the gun on himself outside a storage unit on Victory Drive.
According to Fort Benning Public Affairs, Captain Garcia had just been promoted after serving nearly four years with the Army. He was attached to the 199th Infantry Regiment.
Garcia did not serve in combat, according to post officials. A motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
