(CNN)-Notre Dame has already beat Alabama ... at least when it comes to profits.

Records from collegiate athletic departments show both schools in the National Championship game have football programs that make millions.

But Notre Dame's profits, including the $6.2 million dollar appearance fee for the BCS game, should catapult the Fighting Irish past the Crimson Tide, at least when it comes to money.

When it comes to the top earning teams, that designation goes to the University of Texas.

The Longhorns pocked $77.9 million dollars in profits last season though it didn't translate into a shot at the National Title.
