(CNN)-Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf has died.
He gained national attention in 1991 when he led Operation Desert Storm, which liberated Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion.
Schwarzkopf, known as "Stormin' Norman," reportedly died at his home in Tampa.
He retired there after serving as Commander-in-Chief of US Central Command.
Former President George HW Bush offered his condolences in a statement, calling Schwarzkopf "a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation."
