Valley, AL-This morning at approximately 8:57 AM, a two vehicle accident claimed
the life of Mark Smith, 78 years old of Valley.
Mr. Smith was traveling north
on the Fairfax Bypass in a Chevy S-10 pick-up when he was struck head on by a
GMC 1500 being driven south by Robert Sheehan, 23 years old of Valley. Mr.
Smith's vehicle was turned on its side and, due to the damage, Mr. Smith was
extricated from the vehicle by members of the East Alabama Fire District using
the Jaws of Life.
Mr. Smith was transported to George H. Lanier Hospital
where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. Sheehan did not sustain any injuries in the
accident. The accident is under investigation by the Valley Police Department
and the Chambers County Coroners Office.
