COLUMBUS, GA - It looked like Black Friday at Cross Country Plaza Friday morning
"Goodwill is my favorite store, the only store I really shop at. I love Goodwill," customer Siglenda Walthall says.
Goodwill cut the ribbon on it's new retail store and donation center in the Cross Country Plaza Friday morning.
More than 200 customers lined up outside the 13,400 square foot store waiting to get their hands on the more than 55,000 donated items.
"Not only do you see the donations pouring in but now the customers coming to shop and it really shows the value of that community and partnership gets restate and restated," Jane Nichols, President and CEO of Goodwill Souther Rivers says.
This store is the first of five expansions Goodwill is working on, and many say Midtown is the perfect location.
"It's local, I don't have to go to far to shop. People in this neighborhood really needed a Goodwill here," Walthall says.
In the back of the retail store is the donation center where you can donate all your items.
"The first step would be taking your donation and thanking you for changing lives. The next thing we would do is offer you a receipt for tax purposes," Amanda Moskowitz, Manager of Retail and Training, says.
Goodwill will then hang your item up and give it a quick inspection, and then it's ready to hit the racks.
Almost everything donated in the Midtown store will stay in the store.
Goodwill is also helping the community by adding new jobs with this new store.
"We hired 28 new team members. These were all new jobs to the area," Nichols says.
Another Goodwill store is set to open in Midland off the JR Allen Parkway in April, and a Phenix City store is set to open next summer.
