Cusseta man caught after alleged jewelry theft

COLUMBUS, GA - A Cusseta, Georgia man is behind bars after he was allegedly involved in a snatch and grab robbery at a jeweler.

According to Columbus Police, 35-year-old Reginald Mathis was picked up Tuesday afternoon at Columbus Park Crossing.

Police say Mathis allegedly walked into the Jewelers Touch store on Whittlesey Boulevard and asked to see some rings to buy for his wife.

That's when the store clerk says Mathis grabbed all the rings he could and fled the store on foot.He allegedly bolted to a white van, but soon after he was tracked down by police and arrested.
