COLUMBUS, GA - Everyone loves a sweet deal.
Dozens flocked in and out of the Hostess Bakery Outlet store on Victory Drive Monday for day one of former snack giant's fire sale.
"I like the crumb cakes and I picked up about 15 of them today," Jacklyn Williams says.
"We grew up on Twinkies," Debbie Edmonds says.
Everything must go, meaning your favorite hostess snacks are selling for as cheap as five for a dollar.
But for some shoppers, the end of Hostess snacks is a real zinger.
"I have special needs brothers and sisters so I came out to get them as many treats as I could because I usually give them a snack," Williams says.
Williams says finding new snacks for her siblings may mean less money in her pocket. "It was more convenient to just come in here and pick up something and when you go to the grocery store it will be more expensive."
But there is one sweet treat missing Monday: Twinkies. Customers say the store has been open for hours and still no sign of Twinkies on the shelves.
"They simply said they don't have them. They don't know if they are actually coming in another trailer but for now they don't have the Twinkies here and it's disappointing," Edmonds says.
Debbie Edmonds came to the bakery multiple times Monday looking for her favorite cream filled snack.
"I am hoping that maybe later on I can get at least one," Edmonds says.
Hostess declared bankruptcy earlier this month, leaving more than 18,000 employees without a job in time for the holidays. About 400 people worked at the Dolly Madison plant on Victory Drive, the only Hostess plant in Georgia.
The bakery outlet store will be offering the sweet deals until they run out of the products.
