Columbus- Columbus Police are now investigating after three people including a baby were shot in the North Highland area of Columbus.
According to police three people were shot near 4th Avenue and 38th Street earlier this Thursday afternoon.
Police say two of the victims were a mother and her baby.
The mother, identified as 17 year old Vanessa Murana, was shot in the hand. Her baby, identified as Iziah Murana, was hit in the leg. Police say both are listed in stable condition and the injuries aren't believed to be life threatening.
The third victim, 20 year old Darius Johnson, was shot three times in his left side, left biceps and right forearm. Police believe his injuries are non life threatening.
Police say they are still investigating a motive for the shooting. But right now they believe the shooting began when the suspect discovered the victim, Darius Johnson, may have been involved with robbing somebody he knew. At that point they believe he opened fire on Johnson in retaliation for his alleged robbery. The mother and son were then by the gun fire.
After the shooting police say the alleged suspect fled to a home on 3rd Avenue but eventually got away.
Two other people who were at home when the suspect came in were taken into custody for questioning and later released.
We spoke with a friend of Vanessa, Brittany Madrie, who couldn't believe she had been shot, "It makes me feel really mad because somebody just shot my best friend and her kid," Brittany said, "People these days just don't think about kids. They think about what they can get out of shooting somebody and don't think about the kids surrounding."
Anybody with any information on the shooting is asked to call Columbus Police at 706-653-3400.
