Columbus, GA - The Columbus, Georgia Parks and Recreation Deapartment has won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association's (GRPA) District 3 top award. The city's Parks and Recreation Department accepted the Agency of this Year Award for District 3 at the Annial District Awards Banquet held at the Columbus, Georgia Civic Center. Columbus had been selected as the site for the 2012 Awards Banquet in a competitive bidding process.
Other District 3 awars received by the Department include:
"We couldn't be more proud of new course set by our Parks and Rec Department. Our entire Parks and Rec Staff and Director JAmes Worsley are to be commended for their accomplishments," said Mayor Teresa Tomlinson. Dr. Worsley acknowledges how far the Department has come in a short period of time: "We inherited a severe employee morale challenge and a serious public trust challenge. Every day we work to serve the citizens of Muscogee Couty and to continue raising the bar of excellence for ourselves."
The State of Georgia is split into seven Parks and Recreation regions. The District 3 Region of Georgia includes the entire southwest area of the state, including 40 counties and cities such as Thomasville, Valdosta, Albany and Americus.
