Parents accused of confining son to his bedroom appear in court

Dallas, Georgia (WXIA) - The Paulding County parents accused of confining their son to his bedroom with little food for years were in court today.

Paulding County Magistrate Judge, Martin Valbuena this afternoon refused to throw out child cruelty and false imprisonment charges against Paul and Sheila Comer, sending the case on to a grand jury for possible indictments.

They were also denied bond.

According to a Paulding County Sheriff Detective, 18-year-old Mitch Comer looked more like a 12-year-old when he brought him back from Los Angeles last month.

His parents were arrested and charged with false imprisonment and cruelty to children after their malnourished 18-year-old son Mitch was found in Los Angeles, weighing just 87 pounds.

The emaciated teen told authorities he had suffered years of abuse after being taken out of school in the eighth grade. He said his stepfather, Paul Comer, put him on a bus to Los Angeles on his 18th birthday.

On Thursday, Paulding County Sheriff's Detective Kevin Morgan testified that the teen was so small and slight, Morgan thought the boy was 12years-old.

He added that comer was so malnourished, he still had baby teeth at age 18.
