Los Angeles, CA (CNN) - Mitt Romney is in some big trouble with PBS fans.
During Wednesday night's presidential debate, the Republican candidate said he would cut federal funding for the network if he wins the election.
Among the crowd of angry fans is actor Levar Burton; who spoke out against Romney's comments on CNN's "Early Edition ."
Burton said, "I was outraged. I couldn't believe the man actually fixed his mouth to say that. I interpreted it as an attack on children, Soledad. It is an attack on children, it's an attack on children who come from disenfranchised, you know, backgrounds. PBS is the nation's largest classroom. It guarantees equal access to the wonderfulness that PBS has provided for almost 50 years in this country. And to callously, blatantly, say that it is on the agenda to cut is just; it is not okay."
Burton created and hosted the beloved children's series "Reading Rainbow" on PBS for 21 seasons.
