Pat Summit says she felt forced out as TN coach

Posted: Updated:

Knoxville, TN (WATE) - The all-time winningest major college basketball coach says she felt forced out of her job after being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's.

Pat Summitt, coach for the Tennessee Lady Vols, announced her retirement in April- eight months after revealing her diagnosis. But according to an affadavit filed yesterday, she didn't make that decision on her own.

She says athletic director Dave Hart told her she could no longer be coach.

Hart says was all based on a misinterpretation.
The affidavit came in the wake of a lawsuit filed by former media relations director Debby Jennings.

She's suing the school for age and gender discrimination and retaliation.

She says when she spoke up against Hart's decision, he gave her the option to resign, retire, or be fired.
