Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - The Republican majority in the Alabama State Senate is now up to 23.
This after long-time Democrat Senator Jerry Fielding from Sylacauga announced today he is switching parties. Fielding made the announcement today surrounded by fellow senate Republicans in Montgomery. Fielding was elected in 2010 and says he has been thinking about making the switch for months.
Sen. Fielding says, "For a long time we could, us Southern Democrats we could disassociate ourselves from those liberal things that happen in Washington, D.C. and other places but you know ah but the election of 2010 stopped all of that people now believe if you are a Democrat it's the same here as it is in Washington, D.C. so my decision was just based on my personal political philosophy."
