Dental hygiene student Cheyenne Forbes shows off a certificate naming her the winner of the 2012 Emile T. Fisher Scholarship. With her is Gloria Dodds, the director of institutional advancement for Columbus Tech.NEWS RELEASE
Columbus Technical College dental hygiene student Cheyenne Forbes celebrated her birthday in grand fashion on September 19. That's because late that afternoon, her name was called as the winner of the 2012 Emile T. Fisher Dental Scholarship. This additional $400 will be a welcomed addition to her family's bank account as Cheyenne and her husband are both full time students at Columbus Tech. She will graduate in May from the dental hygiene program in May and her husband is taking core classes in hopes of transferring to engineering school. The couple's busy life doesn't stop there; they also have a 3 1/2 year old son. In her application Cheyenne wrote of how expenses can add up and having some extra money set aside for school will help soften the blow.
Cheyenne Forbes hopes to work at a private practice after she graduates from Columbus Tech and wants to find ways to give back to the community as a volunteer helping educate people on the importance of dental health.
Director of Institutional Advancement Gloria Dodds says this year saw more applicants for the Fisher scholarship than ever before and the scholarship committee had a tough time deciding on a winner because there were so many qualified students from which to choose.
