Harris Co. superintendent assures children are safe after rumors about possible shooting

Posted: Updated:

Harris County, GA - The Harris County School superintendent is assuring parents their children are safe after rumors about a possible school shooting.

School officials say the rumors started after a group of Harris County high school students were suspended earlier this week for a fight on campus.

They say someone posted online saying that they were going to shoot students at the high school football game tonight.

Although officials say they believe the threat is very credible, but they are treating it as if it is.

Superintendent Dr. Craig Dowling says, "Every student that was involved that we could identify has been removed from campus. We found out one student wasn't even a resident of Harris County and he has been withdrawn from school. We will have extra police at the game tonight, quite a few extra. They will have pictures of any student who should not be on campus and they will not be allowed at the facility."

Officials say they do not have the exact number of students who stayed home from school today because of the rumor.
