Columbus, GA - The Columbus man accused of robbing and killing a cab driver pleads not guilty in his first court appearance.

21-year-old Sandy Mitchell is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection to the death of 59-year-old Byron Brown.

Detectives testified today, they found the gun used in the shooting buried in Mitchell's yard just a few hundred yards from the murder scene.

Police say Mitchell told them after brown dropped him off on the corner of Shelby Street and Munson drive he heard a neighbor's dog barking and that when he went back to look, he saw Brown was shot.

Mitchell was denied bond and his case is bound over to superior court.
