Auburn, Ala. - We're just a week away from the 6th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk, hosted by the City of Auburn, Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, Auburn Arts Association, and Auburn Downtown Merchant Association. Mark your calendars for Friday, June 15 from 6 - 9:30 p.m. and join us for this block party with an artistic flair! Event highlights include local and regional artists, live music, children's activities, and late-night shopping and dining opportunities with downtown merchants and restaurants.
Citizens are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of shopping and dining specials with downtown merchants and restaurants. Come visit your favorite downtown eateries and enjoy shopping with local merchants. A variety of local and regional artists will be selling their works on the sidewalks throughout downtown. Look for artists in front of some of your favorite local stores.
This year's SummerNight entertainment line-up features Martha's Trouble, performing on the tiger paw at Toomer's Corner from 6 - 7:30 p.m. This husband and wife duo of Jen and Rob Slocumb encompasses a sweet sound with a hint of folk flare. Together, they have been writing and recording their own music for 12 years. Jen and Rob's talented vocals and acoustic performances are a delight for all ages. Recently, the duo released a lullaby album, "A Little Heart Like You," inspired by their children, Wilson and Emery. Don't miss a SummerNight performance by one of Auburn's favorite duos!
Taking center stage at the tiger paw from 8 - 9:30 p.m. is MUSE, an acoustic musical group with over 34 years of performances throughout the Southeast under their belts. The trio, consisting of Tom Harper, Larry Shaw and Goerge Konstant, has a collection of over 100 cover songs by artists such as Eric Clapton, The Eagles, The Beatles, and James Taylor. Over the years, the trio has recorded two cover albums and one orginal album of songs. A local favorite in the Auburn-Opelika area, SummerNight patrons are sure to enjoy the new and familiar sounds of MUSE.
Additional SummerNight activities include a children's parade with Aubie at 7:30 p.m. through the streets of downtown. Children participating in the parade are encouraged to visit the art activity tables to create unique parade attire! Kids, don't miss your chance to decorate the streets of downtown with sidewalk chalk as well!
