Phenix City police say the man who was found dead in Phenix City on Thursday night, was acquitted of murder in Columbus in December.
Around 9:49 p.m. on Thursday, units from the Phenix City Police Department were dispatched to the area of Brickyard Road near the Oglethorpe Bridge Overpass, regarding an unresponsive person lying off the side of the road. Police said a motorist driving on Brickyard Road, saw an person lying just off the roadway and stopped to see if help was needed. The subject was unresponsive and the motorist notified police.
Upon arrival, police found the man suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was later identified as 27-year-old Carlos Demetrius Brown of Columbus. Brown was acquitted in the murder of Maurice Hollis at Main Street Apartments, in 2009. Prosecutors claimed it was a robbery gone bad.
Brown's remains have been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for an autopsy. Police said there are no suspects or witnesses at this point.
