The Education Department at the Columbus Museum is putting together a new program, Power Play!, to coincide with our upcoming exhibition, On with the Show! The History of the Springer Opera House and Theater in Columbus. The goal of this program is to provide an educational and entertaining experience for a diverse audience and to lay the groundwork for future theatrical programming at the Museum.
To achieve these goals, the Museum is holding a playwriting competition to select an engaging play for our first foray into theatrical programming. The contest winner will receive a $200 prize as well as having their play performed at the Museum.
On with the Show! The History of the Springer Opera House and Theater in Columbus is an exhibition that will celebrate the Columbus area's cultural arts heritage. Both the Springer and the Liberty have played important roles in developing the city's character and forming its identity. The exhibition will show each venue's history from its beginnings to its coming of age and its resurrection. The exhibition will show the importance of these institutions in Columbus' cultural arts community.
