LAGRANGE, GA--Lagrange Police responded to the intersection of Ragland street and Colquitt Street in reference to a car accident on Sunday morning around 10. Upon arrival, police say the female driver was found dead in the driver's seat, but police say it wasn't the accident that killed her.

Police say 37-year-old Tonya Bray was shot in the head before her car crashed.

She was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

During the initial hour of investigation, police say Bray's long-time boyfriend 37-year-old Jeffery Jones turned himself in, in connection with the shooting. Police say he told them he chased Bray's car southbound on Ragland street and fired several shots into her car before her car veered off the roadway.

Police say the couple had just recently separated. They believe the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.

Police say Jones is charged with murder and is being held in the Troup County jail.

Bray was the mother of recent Auburn football signee Quan Bray.

Quan graduated from Troup High in May.

In a statement released this morning, Auburn Coach Gene Chizik said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Quan and his entire family during this extraordinary difficult time. This is a terrible tragedy, but the auburn family will support Quan in every way possible throughout the grieving and healing process ahead. Quan is a great young man with a bright future, and we will be there for him every step of the way."

According to the Auburn football website, Quan was listed as the nation's number five athlete by ESPN.com. His bio also lists Jones as Quan's father.

Lagrange Police say the investigation is still open.

If anyone has any information about the case, contact the Lagrange Police Department or Troup County Crimestoppers.
