City cuts parks and rec. director from coaching

Stefanie Tiso

Two suspended Columbus Parks and Recreation employees were ordered to stop coaching an elite youth basketball team.

Parks and Recreation director Tony Adams and employee Herman Porter are on administrative leave pending a criminal investigation into the department.

City Manager Isiah Hugley has sent both men letters requiring them to refrain from coaching duties. The Columbus Police Department has been involved in the investigation for two months. It began after an audit found problems with how money was handled by the department.

Don Jackson, who is an attorney representing Adams and Porter says they will not involve themselves in city-sponsored activities. However, they will continue their involvement in summer basketball because he says that is done on their own time.
