Man turns himself in after crashing into Burger King

Stefanie Tiso

An Opelika man faces charges after crashing into a Burger King during a police chase.

Around 11:30 Saturday night, officers with the Valley Police Department attempted to stop a black 1991 GMC Sonoma pick-up for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Brandon Doler, pulled over in the vicinity of the Rica Motel on 20th Avenue. But, before the officer could make contact with him about the stop, Doler fled the scene in his vehicle. He re-entered traffic and traveled north on 20th Avenue. The officer radioed other units in the area and attempted to catch up to Doler.

According to witnesses, Doler lost control of his vehicle in the area of San Marco’s, left the roadway, and crashed into the side of a Burger King. There were no customers in the business at the time of the wreck and no Burger King employees were injured.

Doler had to be taken out of the car with the Jaws of Life. Valley EMS personnel treated Doler at the scene and was airlifted to Columbus Regional Trauma Center where he was treated and released on Sunday morning.

Doler has been charged with attempting to elude a police officer and was issued traffic citations for speeding and no seat belt.

The Valley Police Department worked with Alabama State Troopers, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and the Lanett Police Department in the incident.
