FOP plan would keep Columbus crime lab open

Stefanie Tiso

Three out of seven Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime labs are proposed to close because of budget cuts at the state level, and the lab in Columbus is one of them.

Now, the Fraternal Order of Police is showing its opposition with a plan they say would save the GBI money, and close even more labs while avoiding the one in Columbus.

The lab is proposed to close on March 31. A final decision should be made by the legislature within the next several weeks.
