Phenix City Resident, Celebrates 100 Year-Old Birthday

Maria Jones

Can you image living an entire century? Well it’s not a fairytale for one of our locals. Today a surprise birthday celebration was held for Anne Miller with her family and friends. Miller was born and raised in Phenix City and loved to cook, spend time with her husband and grand kids. She also enjoyed square dancing. Miller lost her vision nearly 60 years ago, at the age of 40. But says that never stopped her from living her life to the fullest. Today, her long life was celebrated with cake, a local band and of course square dancers. Miller and her grand daughters talked about the good ole days. Miller's Granddaughter/Geneva Kay Holland said,“Taught us to make the best mud-pies you can image. We had white sand for vanilla shakes, we had dark dirt for chocolate shakes, and we had Chattahoochee red mud for strawberry.”
Grandma, Do you like square dancing? “Love it.” I like the Fox Trot and I like the Waltz too. Miller was married for several years and lost her husband in 2002. She has two daughters, three grand-daughters and four great grand kids. She says you are only as old as you feel and she feels great.
