Escaped Inmates Found in Vegas

Stefanie Tiso

Two Muscogee County Prison inmates have been found just over a week after they escaped from a work detail. 32-year-old Gregory Walker and 33-year-old Herman Freeman were found in Las Vegas, NV around 10:30 Tuesday night. Deputy Warden Jeeter Boone said the prison was notified of the capture around 2:30 this morning by the Georgia Department of Corrections. He also said that when inmates escape from a work detail, it's always just a matter of time before they are located.

In this case, Walker and Freeman were arrested by Las Vegas authorities when they were seen walking down the street and entering their hotel room. According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Walker was arrested without incident. But, Freeman attempted to flee.

The duo escaped from a work detail at Lake Oliver Marina, on Tuesday, June 30. The men got away in a 1991, white Mazda Miata convertible after the car's owner apparently left the keys in the vehicle. The car was parked in a hotel parking lot on S. Las Vegas Boulevard and that is when authorities began surveillance on the car. A statement from the GDC says the vehicle was found without any damage.

When they escaped, Walker was serving a six year sentence for forgery, Freeman was serving a 15 yearsentence on multiple charges including aggravated assault, and armed robbery. At this time, Adamson said there is no evidence linking the inmates to additional crimes during the time they were on the run. Walker and Freeman are being held at the Clarke County Detention Center in Las Vegas awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
