“Raising Money for 3-year-old Shania Davis”

Maria Jones

We were the first to bring you the story in July of little Shania Davis who desperately needs surgery to walk. Shania was born with a condition called “Club Feet,” which forces her to walk on her tippy toes and causes her a great deal of pain. If she doesn’t have the procedure within the year she could be permanently disabled. This weekend nearly a dozen local groups got together to raise money to help the Davis family. NBC 38’s Maria Jones was there and has the story. After making an appeal to our viewers and the community a large outpouring for little Shania is now underway. Shania’s Aunt, Felicia says she is so grateful for the community’s help. Hardy stated, “It’s awesome, it’s really awesome because I that’s what we should do. We all should unite and for them to take interest in it and step forward it’s just an amazing feeling.” More than 10 local Motorcycle Clubs joined forces to see little Shania achieve her dream of walking and get the surgery she needs to correct her feet. Lee-Ray Bennett or Justice as she is known in her club, says reaching out to those in the community is what their club “Essence of Beauty” is all about.
Bennett added, “This is important to us because as a Motorcycle community one thing that we’re real big on is community service and helping out the children. That’s what were big on, whenever we go somewhere, that’s what we say: the children comes first. And Shania is of course is a child and we all have children as well. Whether we have daughters or nieces or nephews we have friends who have children and so it really touched our hearts and touched my heart, so this is something we decided we really want to do.”
Today’s fundraiser is just the first of three events to help the Davis family on their road to seeing Shania take her first steps.
Eldred Hightower, told News 38, “We reach out to a lot of people in Columbus and we do a lot of different things and sometimes we just need to give back. Although there may be a long road ahead for little Shania, her family and the community is standing with her every step of the way. For WLTZ NBC 38, I’m Maria Jones
Shania is scheduled get the needed surgery for her feet in January. If you or your organization would like to help you can make a donation at any Wachovia Bank. There will also be two more fundraisers for Shania, at Wal-Mart on Airport Thruway on Saturday September 21st, and a Walk-a-thon Celebration on Saturday, October 18th at the Rotary Park from 8am to noon. Do not know if it helps or hinders, your Shania Davis having almost the same name as poor Shaniya Davis. In fact, for the 1000s who'll misspell Shaniya's name, they're directed to your site & to be honest, I'm rather glad I came. I've been following the sad tale of Shaniya, but to now read the far more positive story of Shania- all the wonderfully positive experiences she's having in the midst of such pain was a relief. I'm going to check out the fund raising situation, for sure!
