Columbus Tech Implements 4-Day Work Week to Cut Back Spending

Maria Jones

The current state of the economy is affecting many of us, especially in our everyday lives. And officials at Columbus technical college have decided to help their staff, faculty and student by implementing a four day work week. CTC officials say they were asked to make budget cuts by the state and this will save their campus thousands of dollars annually by going to a four day work week. There are a few exceptions and some offices will remain open five days a week. School officials say the new schedule will take affect this fall. This change will be in affect for the next fiscal year ending next June. Officials will re-evalulate it then and determine if it works or does not. Cheryl Myers/CTC Director of Communications says, “So far everybody’s is actually really excited and on board. Because I think they see that the college is responding not only to the state budgetary crunch but everybody is having a tough time making ends meet these days so this is just one more way to make things a little bit easier and were saving money at the state level at the same time, so everybody’s actually pretty excited about it and you’re getting your 40 hours in its just going to be over 4 days as opposed to five days.”
