“Little Shania’s Dream of Walking”

Maria Jones

All parents dream of having to have a healthy baby. But one Columbus family is struggling to make that dream a reality for their three year old. NBC 38’s Maria Jones explains. Since birth three-year-old Shania Davis has never been able to wear shoes and at 15 months old, a deformity in her feet was discovered. “She could hardly get around and it was just, it was shocking, you know, because I had never seen a baby walk like that before,” Shania’s Aunt Felicia Hardy told News 38. According to her mother, Doctors say the ligaments in her feet are too tight causing her a lot of pain, a condition that forces her to walk on her tippy toes. “Some times we have to carry her around, she can’t walk, most of the time,” Tiffany Davis added.
Doctors tell the Davis Family, if Shania’s feet aren’t repaired within the next year, she could be permanently disabled. Tiffany says has sought the help of several doctors in Columbus and Atlanta but just two weeks before the scheduled surgery she says her coverage was denied. “No Medicaid is not responding. We’ve called them on several occasions, each doctors is calling them. One doctor called them about three times and they are just not responding,” Hardy stated. But as a strong family of faith, The Davis’s says they will continue their fight and prayers in hopes of seeing Shania, walk, run and play as most three years olds. Shania’s Aunt, Latoya Davis “Before she goes to school, to get her surgery done so she can be able to play kickball and run around with the other kids.” Her mom added, “I want to see her walk again, like normal people.” For WLTZ NBC 38, I’m Maria Jones.
